Opera Hong Kong Chorus was established in 2004 and made its debut in December that year in the Opera Hong Kong production of La Traviata. The selection process of members is stringent, and participation is sought from the general public as well as from Hong Kong's leading music institutes. The Chorus now has a membership of over 120 gifted singers, who come from all walks of life. Under the enthusiastic and talented leadership of Jimmy Chan, a choral conductor of the highest calibre, Opera Hong Kong Chorus achieves the high standards required for large-scale opera productions.
Apart from its main obligation to support Opera Hong Kong, the Chorus has every intention to become a first class opera chorus in its own right, promoting choral and opera activities in Hong Kong and introducing high quality choral music to the public. In support of its aim to eventually become a full-time professional choir, Opera Hong Kong Chorus will perform in all future opera productions by Opera Hong Kong. Its plans also include holding workshops, developing educational programmes, performing choral concerts with opera scenes, and presenting recitals by members.
