Opera: Roméo et Juliettea
Opera Hong Kong Production in Le French May

Roméo et Juliette is a heart-breaking tragedy on the fate of two young lovers that touches the soul of all who see it.

This opera in five acts, which was first performed in 1867, was written by Charles-François Gounod, with a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré based on William Shakespeare's play. It is one of the world's most well-known and popular operatic pieces.
The story is very well known, even to people who are not familiar with the opera. Despite its enormous sadness, and its depiction of the futility of our actions, it remains immensely popular, having been presented consistently over a period of 400 years in the form of a play, at least two operas and many movies, including Bernstein's West Side Story.

The performance will be sung in the original French, with English and Chinese surtitles.
