As Dean of the Vocal Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Liao Chang Yong is one of the very few Asian opera stars to have achieved global renown and popularity. In 1997, Liao captured the First Prize at Placido Domingo’s World Operalia Competition and won the Gold Medal in the Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Norway. He also gained Established Artistic Achievement Award” of the Committee of 100 and “Established Artist” of New York.
