Sammy Chien graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2008, majoring in voice. He won in the Operatic Aria competition of the Hong Kong Youth Singing Festival in 2006 and currently participating in the Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist Development Programme. Chien’s operatic roles include the title role in Don Giovanni, Escamillo, Dancairo and Morales in Carmen, Capulet and Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette, Gondremarck in La vie parisienne, King Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors etc. On the concert platform, he has sung the title role of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and baritone solos in Dvořák’s Te Deum, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy and Howard Blake’s The Bear.
