Performed by the local artists of the Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist Development and Education Programme, the abridged versions of operatic masterpieces – Carmen x L’elisir d’amore, will charm the audience with their sublime melodies and will undoubtedly bring an exciting and memorable opera performance to the audience!
Bizet’s Carmen is one of the most performed operas in the world, combining Spanish passion and French lyricism. The story tells a love story that exalts freedom, liberation, and intertwined with destiny and passion. Don José throws over everything, career, honour, family, even his childhood sweetheart Micaëla, for a doomed love affair with the gipsy Carmen.
Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore is one of the well-known operas that has been frequently performed in the world, expressing the triumph of sincerity in romanticism. The story praises truthfulness and passion for love. In order to win Adina’s love, Nemorino asks Dulcamara for love potion, even indenturing himself to join the army.
